Management Approach

Chalice's personnel are a Principal Engineer, a communications associate and two engineering associates. Our management approach emphasises quality and communication and aims to maximise customer benefit. For safety critical work, Chalice holds £1,000,000 Professional Indemnity insurance.

Although some projects may depend on our knowledge of complex numerical techniques and physics, we always aim to produce clear communications and conclusions that our clients understand.

Delivering accurate and reliable calculations and engineering analysis requires not only a physical understanding of the problem and the numerical techniques we use, but also consideration of relevant standards or codes of practice for a particular application. We have experience of a wide range of applications of engineering analysis from aero-engines to structural steelwork so we are familiar with working to a wide range of standards and codes of practice.

In cases where clients are not very experienced in analysis of their products, we try to ensure we identify any relevant governing standards and codes that the client may not be familiar with. We hold membership of the British Standards Institute for this reason. Of course we do not have experience of every standard or industry application but openness is an important part of any quality strategy and we will always give a clear and objective evaluation of how well our expertise matches any project proposal.

Quality Certification

We work to a quality system based on the international engineering analysis organisation's (NAFEMS) implementation of ISO9000 and the Institute of Quality Assurance Small Business Standard. The company is a member of NAFEMS and is one of the few consultancies in our field to use analysts certified through their Registered Analyst Scheme. We are in the process of obtaining full ISO9001:2000 certification for all our business activities.

Quality Manual

All analyses projects are conducted under a quality management system, as defined in our Quality Manual. This includes issues such as audits of the models, input data, results and validation calculations.

The Quality Manual also covers data security, archiving and certification of software, since many organisations are naturally sensitive about the security of data we receive from them.
