Chalice and NAFFEMS Improve Analysis Awareness - MCAD Magazine - January 2004

A PDF version of the magazine is available for download here.

Leeds-based FEA consultancy, Chalice Engineering, is working with NAFEMS1 to raise awareness and provide support to engineering design teams in using analysis software accurately.

The campaign is launched in response to concerns over increased access to analysis tools by non-specialist designers. It will aim to help companies carry out routine analyses whilst minimising the risks.

Campaign activities will include NAFEMS seminars aimed at designers and a series of articles by Chalice General Manager Mark Chillery in the NAFEMS journal BenchMark. Technical resources will also be available on the Chalice website at www.chalice-engineering.com. Typical issues that the campaign will highlight will be the influence of boundary conditions, (restraints and constraints) in static analysis, the nature of dynamic failure and dealing with post-yield behaviour.

Mark Chillery says "While it can be cost-effective for design teams to undertake the more routine analyses themselves, these should be done with an understanding of the scope or limitations of the analysis. We hope that this campaign will make it easier for designers to decide what sort of problems they can safely tackle and what they might need advice on."
